Highlights
• Microlumbar discectomy (MLD) and minimally invasive tubular discectomy are widely used procedures for lumbar discectomy.
• A comparison of patients who underwent the two procedures did not show a significant difference in functional outcome, complications, or recurrence rate.
• Less use of post-operative analgesics, less blood loss, and decreased hospitalization can be highlighted as advantages of minimally invasive tube discectomy.
• However, when analyzed in a broader sense, according to the author’s opinion, no significant difference is observed in the efficacy of the two procedures.
